Named by the Nomadic Salish Indians, Pen-Tak-Tin was "A place to stay forever." The city limits encompass 10,988 acres, 1,130 feet above sea level. and receives only 11 inches of precipitation per year! Moderate annual average temperatures, very comfortable humidity levels and short winters contribute to Penticton’s appeal.

Recreation and lifestyle opportunities abound, including the Valley’s best summer beaches. There is also riding, hiking, tennis, fishing, or just good shopping; plus other recreational facilities such as: Curling, skating, hockey, swimming, and three major ski resorts within easy distance. There are more than two dozen golf courses within an hour drive of the city. Numerous cottage wineries, local service clubs, volunteer organizations, and fraternal organizations all help to enhance the community.

Penticton is also know for world class wines, Canada's only Iron man competition, sweet tree fruits, an internationally known hockey school and, of course, The Giant Peach!
